SmartPlugs

Smart Plug cut to show root developement

For liner propagation, SmartGrow comes in 1½”x 1½” size “plugs” that are ideal for either a 50 or 70 cell trays.  SmartPlugs have many advantages over traditional soil-based liner media.

The new SmartPlug media offers the following:

l       READY TO GO—no formulas or mixing

l       ABUNDANT OXYGEN SPACE

l

SELF FEEDING—no additional nutrients

l

STERILE—pathogen free

l

FASTER ROOT GROWTH and anchorage

l

HIGHER YIELD—minimize cutting losses

l

NO CHEMICALS—all natural ingredients

"The SmartGrow liner plugs were superb in my tests. They accelerated root and plant growth, retained water, retained the fertilizer, and retained the fungicides and herbicides to protect the plants."

      Felix Munoz

Owner of F&C Nursery and Grower Consultant

M.S. degree in Horticulture from Colorado State

"Since I have been using SmartGrow Plugs for my propagation of Baby Sunroses and Scheffera Arboricola, my rooting time has decreased. Using the SmartPlug plus a rooting hormone (Essential), I had roots on the Baby Sunrose in three weeks instead of five weeks during the month of January. Also the results on Scheffera Arboricola was reduced from several months during the summer, in 4'' containers to six weeks starting in January."

Please note that for best results you should use SmartPlugs differently from your  current, soil-based media.

  Directions for best SmartPlug performance:

1.     Soak SmartPlugs in water before using.

2.     Best results occur with misting rather than overhead irrigation.

3.     Use little to no fertilizer, depending on the needs of the plants.

4.     The SmartPlug hole must be tight around the stem:

Use a 50-cell tray for thicker cuttings.

Use a 72-square cell tray for thin cuttings.

5.     Transplant when roots show through the SmartPlug media or as desired.

6.     Plan to transplant several days earlier than liners grown in other media.

7.     When transplanting, add less than normal amount of fertilizer to soil in new container.

8.    For extended time in liner tray, plant may require light fertilizing through misting  system.

When transplanted, SmartPlugs provide extra nutrient uptake.  All test liners at left transplanted at same time. Liner development time ranged from 6 weeks to as short as 3 weeks.
